On Guard

Here is another photo from a collection of a former AEF member, William Carey, who spent time in Siberia. His grandson, Bll has been scanning the photos and has allowed me to post some.

This photo is of a soldier on guard. The fort (or at least what looks like a fort) in the background is particularly interesting, it just doesn't look real. You also get a sense of the winter gear the men had to work with. More photos to come.

27th Infantry Camp in Siberia

Recently, I was contacted by a man, Bill, who's grandfather, William C. Carey, was in Siberia at the same time as my great grandfather George Voegeli. Bill has been going through some old photos of his grandfather's and has been sending a number of them along to me. He has graciously allowed me to post them here. Below is a pretty great picture of the 27th infantry, of which George was a part of, in camp in Siberia. It's unclear the exact date but you can see it must be summer or late spring based on the clothing of the men. I will be posting more of Bill's photos in the future.
